About
"Despite the title, which refers to Gen. Manuel A. Odría's coup against President José Bustamante y Rivero in October 1948, this short anthology is compromised of interviews and primary documents that shed light on an important military leader who was a contemporary of Juan Perón and sought to copy many of the Argentine leader's populist methods. There are few biographies of Odría that are especially helpful to scholars, and this volume is not a true biography. But the interviews and the early background on the general's career before he served in Bustamante y Rivero's cabinet and then betrayed him are illuminating. Rare photographs of the Odría era"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
