Patsy suicides in the first scene! The reason couldn't be the crease on the back of her latest quilt, or any of the other little things that go wrong on a daily basis. It could be the guilt of having an abusive father dying in a nursing home alone and ignored. But there is a darker, scarier part of her past that she is trying to avoid. Her friends, the Border Babes, a group of quilters that meet at a local bookstore, are shocked that Patsy didn't turn to them with her problems before seeking a permanent solution. Luckily Patsy survives. The friends who surround her give her their own stories, teach her about the meaning of life, and restore her will to live.
