Northanger Abbey
Catherine Morland, 17, is a Gothic novel fan and training to become a “heroine”. She is also one of 10 children vying for the attention of their father, a clergyman. When Catherine is invited to accompany wealthy friends to Bath, England, she agrees -- excited by the prospect of a winter of ballroom dancing and social engagements. It is there that she meets the dashing Henry Tilney, whose parents live at Northanger Abbey with its mysterious suite of rooms that no one ever enters.

The novel follows the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, to their new home, a cottage on a relative's property, where they experience love and heartbreak.

English novelist Jane Austen (1775 –1817) is best known for her romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry. Her wry wit has gained her many fans and critics. From 1811 until 1816, with the release of Sense and Sensibility Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma, Jane Austen became widely known and loved as a writer. Two completed novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, were published posthumously in 1818.
