Die Untersuchung folgt einem qualitativen Ansatz, bei dem vor allem die Alltagsperspektive, die Erfahrungen und Handlungen der StadtbewohnerInnen im Vordergrund stehen. Mittels ethnographischer Methoden arbeitet die Autorin die heterogenen Funktionen und Vorstellungen heraus, die den Zócalo zum öffentlichen Raum und einem symbolischen Zentrum machen.
