About
Juana or Johanna Bormann was a 53-year-old defendant at the British trials at Lueneburg,Germany. The trials were for former Nazi and SS guards, male and female, who had tortured and killed Jewish prisoners in concentration camps during World War II. Bormann was on trial along with two female guards who were much younger but no less notorious and despicable. Their names were Elizabeth Volkenrath and Irma Grese, ages 26 and 22 respectively. At the outset of the criminal proceedings many thought that the British tribunal would not put to death female defendants, especially those who had been convicted of crimes that had occurred during wartime.
