Rio Diablo

The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 as a physical barrier between East and West Germany. For 28 years the Berlin Wall was the symbol of the Cold War and State Repression. “Rio Diablo” is a tribute to Freedom Fighters and People who oppose Dictatorship and Injustice.

In principle Rio Diablo is an illustrated novel, based on the thesis that text and images work together. Both the images that you in your own imagination create and the pictures I as writer and artist suggest as a supplement to the reader's imaginary world.

Faith & Power

Symbols are images in simple forms representing a collective belief or territorial integrity. Rulers - good as evil – have always made use of symbols in an attempt to preserve the status quo.
Rio Diablo is filled with such symbols. Most significant is the river, causing death and destruction if you try to cross it. But superstitions, prejudices and conventional thinking are also part of the story. Fortunately it is so wisely that restrictive symbols can be replaced with prospective symbols. That too is part of the story.

Young & Old

Young people are visual in their approach to reality. Powered by their imagination and daydreaming.
Later in adulthood the urge or ability to build castles in the air, dries out. Too many illusions have been shattered. Reason has taken over the sense of reality. A truth with modifications, because when it comes to the fight for freedom – it is the vision of a better and fairer society that ultimately unites young and old in a joint rebellion against tyranny.
