§ Breton studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent and the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
§ He is best known for his paintings of Peasants.
§ In 1858, he married the daughter, Elodie, of one of his early teachers, Felix de Vigne.
§ Vincent van Gogh was so impressed with Breton’s work that he walked 85 miles to Courrieres to pay a visit.
§ In 1889, he was made a member of the Royal Academy of London.
§ Breton was also a published writer of poems and his autobiographical works.

NOTABLE WORKS: The Return of the Gleaners, The Song of the Lark, The Weeders, Blessing of the Wheat.
