"Beowulf" in Blank Verse

This thesis translates from Old English into Present-Day English the section in MS Cotton Vitellius A. XV. known as Beowulf; the poem has been rendered into unrhymed iambic pentameter (blank verse). This thesis also includes a critical introduction exploring how the monsters in the poem horrify the audience, a brief note about the chosen mode of translation, a listing of the names of both places and people that appear in the work, a genealogical chart of the tribes in the poem, a history and explanation of the war between the Swedes and Geats that is related in the second part of Beowulf, and a brief textual history tracing the journey of Cotton Vitellius A. XV. from its origins in a medieval monastery to its current home in the British Library.
