65 Years of Polish Animation for Children / 65 lat polskiej animacji dla dzieci

Animated films hold a truly privileged position in children's cinema. They exist in two forms: individual productions and - more commonly - film series. The popularity of series among the youngest viewers is closely connected with the specific character of children's perception. Children quickly remember and become attached to the characters of film series, and once they have fully accepted them, eagerly await their new adventures. Polish animated films directed towards child audiences did not exist in pre-war Poland. Their history began in 1947 with Zenon Wasilewski's animated puppet film "In the Time of King Krakus". During the 65 years of their existence Polish animated films for children have had great success, winning numerous awards at prestigious festivals, including an Oscar for "Peter and the Wolf". This catalogue, published in a limited edition of 2000 copies, presents an abbreviated history of this exceptional field of art. It acquaints the viewer with different kinds of animated films and different techniques used in their production, explains the very essence of the process of animation, and presents the masters and their greatest achievements in films for the youngest audiences.
