About
Nardine hasn't experienced much luck with her love affairs. A slave girl at a ludus, or gladiatorial school, she is paired with gladiators at her mistress' request. She discovers she is pregnant by her second lover after he is dead, when he is killed in the arena just like the first one.
Her dearest wish is to become a mother, but she doesn't want to give birth as a slave, where her child would be taken from her.
With the help of another gladiator -- an African named Abedi --she finds a way to escape. But he is injured in the arena and prevented from accompanying her. They work to find a way to be together so Abedi can be a father to her child.
