The Sound of Falling

The Sound of Falling is a tapestry of lyric imagery, a weaving together of grief and redemption, memory and love, family and loss, absence and affirmation; in short, that which makes us human. It begins with the poet’s father’s embrace of an unseen future, the rising wave of grief before that father’s impending death, and the aftermath as that sea receded. It continues with a journey through the diagnosis, in utero, of a granddaughter’s life-threatening defect, her tumultuous first few weeks, and the gut-wrenching gratitude and grief that comes with a life made possible by another’s death. What follows are poems of mystery and wonder and, finally, the recognition that ...like time, love burns as if a fire that, no matter how warm, is never long enough.
