Presentiamo qui la prima edizione integrale commentata di un taccuino superstite dello scultore fiammingo Peter Scheemakers, attivo in Inghilterra dal 1720 al 1771. Esso riguarda il suo soggiorno romano del 1728-1730 durante il quale l'autore dimostra un'attenzione particolare alle sculture antiche di Palazzo Giustiniani e alle statue moderne di Bernini, Algardi e di altri scultori barocchi minori, opere visibili soprattutto dentro e fuori San Pietro, a Santa Maria del Popolo. Nel taccuino si trova un interessante repertorio di riproduzioni in scala di opere antiche poi riproposte alle dimensioni naturali per la decorazione delle ville e dei giardini inglesi.
