Henry Guimbard est originaire du Limousin où il a passé la deuxième guerre mondiale et passé sa scolarité. Il s'adonne à la compétition cycliste dès 1956 et va remporter plus de 180 victoires durant toute sa carrière cycliste. Il participera au Tour de France 1966 dans l'équipe Mercier aux côtés de Raymond Poulidor . Après sa carrière il deviendra un éducateur reconnu et président de club cycliste Il apparait à travers ce livre comme un coureur généreux, offensif avec un fort caractère.
