About
Specialist French-language Dramatic Passions played throughout the second Middle Ages, Jean-Pierre Bordier became more interested in theatrical forms cultivated in Europe during the X th -16 th centuries. To make these games more widely read than would be expected from their common impregnation of Christian doctrine, Jean-Pierre Bordier became a philologist, linguist, anthropologist, literary historian. And to these diverse approaches of the same field of study, he has joined a constant and fruitful openness to other registers of expression (courtly narratives, hagiographic literature, satirical poetry, allegorical writing ...) This illuminating variety is reflected in the homage paid to him by thirty former students, colleagues and friends. The theater of the XII th -XVII th centuries the spotlight but not exclusivity. To the contributions centered on the theater itself, are added indeed those which, around the notion of theatricality, are interested in the presence of a "theatrical quality" in various texts. Without completely breaking with a similarity to the theater, a third component explores other ways of revelation, privileging "literarity" as a sign and manifestation of meaning.--Translation of page 4 of cover by Honoré Champion.
