The Silent Man

Synopsis - Rupert Temple returned home from war after resigning his commission owning to his conscience only to find that people at home did not agree with him. The newspapers who had once called him a hero now named him coward, his father disowned him and his fiancé too refused to listen to him and bid him be gone. Rupert renounced his formal life and took to the road and became a working man using the name of Marcus Grant. Eventually he finds himself working in Lancashire as a manual labourer. Many are suspicious of him as he is clearly not a common working man but Marcus keeps himself to himself and is disinclined to give any one information relating to his past. He soon earns the nick name the Silent Man. Whilst working in Lancashire his path once crosses that of his one time fiancee and he has cause to rescue her from a fire. She agrees to keep his identity a secret, but still wants no more to do with him. Later Marcus’s working ability is recognized and he is promoted at work. He faces a number of challenges and helps those with whom he comes into contact. However even though he meets his fiancée again there is ultimately a tragic ending.
