About
Operation Dynamo is the sequel to Operation Pied Piper, which covered the events involving four evacuees at the start of World War II. Operation Dynamo is set in the summer of 1940. Polly, aged ten is going on eleven, sensible and mature for her age. Her friend Vera, a year younger, and brothers Jack and Billy have been cared for by Denzil and Ma Trewithen with great kindness since their arrival in Padstow in Cornwall from Leeds in Yorkshire in September 1939. Their adventures - and occasional scrapes - have a charm and innocence which will appeal to young readers, curious about the circumstance and privations of the time, which their grandparents and great-grandparents would have been quite used to. A rather curious French boy, Henri, appears, who, though badly wounded, has escaped from Dunkirk, and there is an unexpected and touching reunion.
