"Die im vorliegenden Band versammelten Beiträge zur 51. Internationalen Hochschulwoche der Südosteuropa-Gesellschaft (1.-5. Oktober 2012) hinterfragen die Fremdwahrnehmung Südosteuropas als Prototyp von 'Balkanisierungsprozessen' und politischer Instrumentalisierung von Sprache. Daher sind - neben der historischen Einleitung 'Sprachkontakte und osmanische legacy' - die Panels 'Klein- und Mehrsprachigkeit', 'Politisierung von Sprache'und 'Sprache und Diskriminierung in Südosteuropa' komparativ angelegt und suchen immer den europäischen Vergleichsrahmen - sei es mit der sorbischen Minderheit, mit Sprachnationalismus in Belgien oder der "Europäischen Charta der Regional- oder Minderheitensprachen". Der Band besitzt neben einer zeitgeschichtlichen Dimension, die die kommunistischen Sprach(en)politiken evaluiert, tagespolitische Aktualität, da Sprach(en)politik häufig indikativ ist für kommende politische Entwicklungen."--
