Vergil's Aeneid

This book argues that the "Aeneid"'s main purpose is to present a series of emotionally gripping episodes, not to praise Aeneas and his mission, criticize them or express "two voices" concerning them. Furthermore this approach explains what happens in the "Aeneid" better than the assumption that its purpose is to propound a message, that is how it was usually regarded into the nineteenth century and that is what the ancient Greek and Romans regarded as the primary purpose of literature.
