About
Nawab Nisar Ahmad Khan, Bahadur Yar **Jung** (or Bahadur Yar **Jang**) [1905-1944] was an outstanding Muslim leader of the Independence movement. Originally from Hyderabad Deccan, he rose to fame due to his oratory and dynamic personality full of initiative and passion for the progress of Indians. The title Bahadur Yar Jung was conferred upon him by the Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir ‘Osman Ali Khan, when the latter heard Nawab Nisar Ahmad Khan’s oration during a sermon he was delivering on the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. The speech was so moving that it mesmerized the Nizam and brought tears in his eyes. The book comprises 604 letters written by Bahadur Yar Jang to various contemporaries including dignitaries, heads of states, ambassadors, political leaders, scholars, writers and poets. Due to their beautiful language and effective style, the letters have literary value besides being historical documents. The collection of these letters was published 23 years after his death with some rare photographs, specimen of BYJ’s Urdu handwriting and maps. Two alphabetical indexes, one arranged by subject and the other by the addressees, add to the value of the book.
