About
A "chronology of music in our century is Nicolas Slonimsky's Music Since 1900 {BRD 1937, 1949, 1972}, with coverage to 1969. Instead of preparing afurther revision of his own book, Slonimsky encouraged the writing of the present volume, wrote an introduction for it, and provided 'clues, suggestions and corrections' for the author. Burbank . . . has cited many of the same events that appear in Music Since 1900, but not all; and he has added new citations. . . . For each year the citations are clustered in five categories: opera; dance; instrumental and vocal music; births, deaths, and debuts; and related events. Most entries have descriptive, background, or biographical data, and often there are extracts from contemporary reactions to performances." (Choice) Bibliography. Index.
