About
The story of the loss of the emigrant ship Tayleur at Lambay island north of Dublin in 1854 with the loss of nearly 400 lives. The inquiries blamed seamanshp and faulty compasses. Many of the survivors continued to Australia in the Golden Era. The Tayleur belonged to White Star line a predecessor of the line that owned the Titanic. The Tayleur was a steel clipper ship of 1750 tons built at Warrington, inland on the Mersey by the Vulcan Foundry. Many of the emigrants were Irish, Scottish French and German but the majority were English.
