Born to Burn

"Born to Burn" is the much forgotten, faith enhancing, true account of the unsung exploits of humble Welsh missionary David Davies. Although he was not featured in the classic film, ‘The Inn of the Sixth Happiness’, Davies was Ayleward’s superintendant and it was through his suggestion that Ayleward decided to take the children over the mountains during the Japanese Occupation of China. Subsequently, it was Ayleward’s decision to spy for the Chinese that led to David or ‘Dai’ as he was known, to be arrested by the Japanese and horrendously tortured. However, this humble man of god was quick to forgive and Gladys Ayleward and David continued to be lifelong friends and one could remark; still continue to have a friendship to this very day. In the 1900s, over the course of David’s stay in China, with his wife Jean and their children; David experiences many miraculous happenings by the hands of the lord and saw many Chinese people give their lives to Christ, their lord and heavenly father. Even in the beginning, in his humble, quiet origins on a Welsh farm, to his strong friendship with a Chinese boy in school, Davies always had a passion to help the Chinese people, a drive that did not leave him up until his death. “Born to Burn” is a story of holy forgiveness and god loving kindness. If you wish to be inspired; the story of David Davies is well worth looking at. It is impossible to read this book without examining one’s own theological foundations, faith and sheer self discipline. A fantastic read that has been largely forgotten by the masses. A true missionary hero; one whose life could be likened to that of the great muscular Christians such as Hudson Taylor or Griffith Johns....
