About
NTC's Dictionary of Folksy, Regional, and Rural Sayings, compiled by Anne Bertram and edited by Richard A. Spears, is a colorful and entertaining collection of more than 2,800 expressions that have developed through three centuries in the speech of country folk, hillbillies, and cowboys. These expressions demonstrate the wry sense of humor and keen understanding of human nature found in the culture and language of rural America. Among the features of the dictionary are the following: more than 5,000 example sentences show how each expression is used; a Phrase-Finder Index is provided to enable the user to find an expression by looking up any major word in the expression; and pronunciations are provided for unfamiliar words.
