About
Hiraeth #3 The continuing story of Gillian DeBroze and James Kilburn, begun in "A Love so Bold". Edward II forces his subjects, DeBroze and Kilburn amongst them, to march against the Scots. Kilburn has sworn revenge on DeBroze for his mistreatment of Gillian, and his friend Hugh watches out for him on the long march to Scotland. But the Kings business must be attended to first, and the two armies meet at Bannockburn, the English forces being utterly routed. Gillian waits at James's home, but news is slow and unreliable; all that is certain is that there has been a great slaughter amongst the English knights. She feels in her heart that James is safe, but is haunted by the belief that he will kill her husband, and thus set blood between them. When at last authentic news comes through that James has survived, but is wounded and hiding in a cave, she hurries to bring him home and nurse him back to health.
