About
Le Burundi moderne a été façonné par la Belgique, l'Eglise catholique romaine et l'ONU. Après l'indépendance en 1962, le Burundi voit triompher le tribalisme en 1965 aboutissant à la pulverisation du régime démocratique en 1966. Le pays aborde alors sa phase de " République (tutsi) contre le peuple (hutu)", qui après une longue série de massacres (1969, 1972, 1988) aboutira aux éléctions de 1993. Le pouvoir revient alors au président (hutu) Ndadaye dont l'assassinat par les putchistes (tutsi) en 1993 ainsi que celui de milliers de militants du parti FRODEBU déclencheront des massacres intercom-munautaires, la radicalisation de l'opposition et la desintégration nationale.
