University Technology Transfer

Over the last two decades, universities have found themselves at the centre of a growing debate about the economic future of regions. In this era of globalization, universities have become primary players in the generation of new knowledge and innovation. Through technology commercialization- the dissemination and commercialization of their ideas to the private market- universities have an ability to directly impact regional economic growth. Since the Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, many universities in the USA and around the world have changed the way they approach technology commercialization. This edited volume compares and analyzes different models of university technology commercialization. In particular, the book focuses on external and internal factors that affect the ability of universities to transfer technologies from the public to the private market. External university factors include regional commercialization, culture and history. Internal university culture focuses on policy, culture, and organization of technology transfer within the university. Unlike many studies that review best practices for technology transfer, this book will demonstrate that there is no one model of technology transfer being implemented, and that some models work better than others.
