About
"A glance at the current state of the profession reveals a varied scenario in which Translation and Interpreting often constitute two interlingual processes performed by the same person in the same communicative situation or in different situations within the same set of relations and contacts, at times inextricably linked to other competences and other knowledge, though often seen as a single entity in the eyes of the public at large. Translation and Interpreting can thus be found in relations of overlap, hybridity and contiguity, and effected variously in professional practices, strategies and translation processes. Yet, translation and interpreting have long been regarded as two separate fields of study. The different denominations of the academic disciplines - Translation Studies and Interpreting Studies - is only one example indicating the scholarly division of the two research areas. Academic references for contact and comparison between specialists in the two disciplines are therefore lacking, even though translation and interpreting scholars would have a great deal to discuss in terms of research, teaching and professional practice. This book aims to fill this gap by providing insights into theoretical and methodological approaches, which aim at integrating translation and interpreting in the same chapter. Each contribution will therefore offer innovative perspectives on T&I in a series of topics going from training methods to identity perception, from English as lingua franca to T&I strategies, from T&I in specific speech communities to the status of interpreters and translators"--
