Well, it's been about 20 years since I read the only copy that I ever saw. I was working in an SF book store and the manager gave it to me because he knew 'I was weird'. Very peculiar book. The protagonist is clearly verging on psychosis, and the fact that the author might share similar traits does not make it any easier to gainsay the events. A black man recently returned from military duty is now working as a community college instructor somewhere in the East Coast. A device has been planted on his lawn to simulate geckos. The tone is 'monochronal' and he has it tested at a lab. Clearly mechanical. He writes to the town council and requests information relating to the location of the device. He is informed: 'The information that you seek is not currently available.' In short, it's a very peculiar book...and one of my favorites of all time, I might add! But you're not going to find it anyplace. Unless, you are one of the chosen ones.
