"The influence of the Iranian civilization in the historical developments of the Middle East, Central Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean world was important particularly during the Sasanian period. Contemporary research for this period of ancient Iranian past was established mainly in the second half of the twentieth century and it was in the last few decades that the main bulk of bibliography for the Sasanians has been produced. Hence, it could be suggested that the interest for the study of Sasanian Iran has been recently increased and the interest for further research on this field remains high. As a result of this interest and a parallel increase of the bulk of scholarship on Sasanian Iran, there is a growing need for a systematic codification of the various works that has been recently produced about Sasanian Iran. This volume aims to fill this gap and it is expected that this guide will be an indispensable tool both for specialists and general readers who are interested in every aspect of Sasanian Iran: art, history, literature, archaeology etc. It will be also useful for those interested in late Parthian and early Islamic periods.
