"This Morija-printed book is by two former Sesotho teachers, and describes the features of traditional folk-tales, as well as 31 typical themes, taken from an English translation of The morphology of the folk tale by Vladimir Propp, originally published in Russian in 1928. It is noted that new folk-tales are unlikely, because watching television has taken over from listening to folk-tales. There follow seven (irregularly numbered) short folk-tales followed by a table identifying a number of themes in each. Following this, there are 24 traditional folk-tales, for which the reader is invited to identify the themes. Unusually amongst Sesotho texts by teachers, this one seems to be directed at a wide range of readers."--Publisher's insert.
