A Qualitative Study of the Adult Child's Experiences of Having a Parent Come Out as Gay

New findings consisted of family discord prior to a parent coming out as gay, the openness in an adolescent to tell others about his or her parent's sexual orientation and acceptance/relationship enhancement after a parent comes out as gay. A proposed theoretical model was developed based on the findings. The study concludes with clinical implications, limitations, and recommendations for future research.
