About
Maxwell Fernie was a crucial player behind the pipe organ in the church of St Mary of the Angels in Wellington, New Zealand. As Fernie Maxwell was in England at the time it was being built, from 1956-1958, many letters were sent between him and three people: Father George McHardy, the parish priest at St Mary's, William Croft of the Auckland firm of George Croft & Son who were building the organ, and Arthur Davies of Palmer & Sons Ltd, the organ pipe makers in England. This correspondence gives a detailed and technical description of how this organ became a reality.
