About
Teachers of classical Hebrew have long felt the need for a textbook designed for the training of students in writing Hebrew compositions in the style of the Old Testament. This book is offered in the hope that it will fill the vacuum. It is assumed that the student has already covered the general groundwork of Hebrew grammar, that he has worked through the exercises accompanying the rules of grammar, and that he has also studied some Old Testament Hebrew texts. The method employed in this book is a reversal of the convention of stating the rules of Hebrew syntax and then producing examples to illustrate them. Samples of English usage emerge from the continuous texts provided and these are modified in terms of Hebrew thinking in a manner which endows the process of translation with understanding and interest. -- Preface.
