숙종의 명에 의해 선조의 치적과 훈모訓謨를 모아 간행한 책이다. 1782년(정조 6) 정조가 태조부터 영조까지의 보감을 합편하여 『국조보감國朝寶鑑』을 편찬하면서 권24-33으로 수록되었다. 『숙종실록』에서 1684년(숙종 10) 4년 이단하(李端夏, 1625-1689) 등에 의해 편찬되었음을 확인할 수 있다. 권1은 1567년(명종 22) 6월-1569년, 권2는 1570년-1574년, 권3은 1575년-1580년, 권4는 1581년-1582년, 권5는 1583년, 권6은 1584년-1588년, 권7은 1589년-1591년, 권8은 1592년-1593년, 권9는 1594년-1597년, 권10은 1598년-1607년의 통치를 내용으로 하고 있다.
