The present is in calf, with vol. 1 being the ‘Sixth Edition’, vols. 2 and 4 the ‘Third Edition,’ and vol. 3 the ‘Fifth Edition.’
A satire on the leading public characters of the day in a series of passages professing to be quotations from William Henry Ireland’s forged play ‘Vortigern.’ It originally appeared from time to time in the 'Morning Herald' and was written by Sir Henry Bate Dudley and his wife Mary Dudley. The preface to volume 1 is dated 1795, its dedication is signed: "Ralph Register," i.e. the Dudleys. See ESTC, N11733 for volume 1 only.
