What Type of Neighborhoods into which the Chinese Tend to Move

The Chinese American is a major part of the fast growing Asian population in the City of New York. This thesis focuses on the change in the spatial distribution of the Chinese Americans in city during 1970-­‐2010, whether the Chinese Americans are getting assimilated with other ethnic groups in this period and what kind of neighborhoods they tend to concentrate in. Using U.S. Census and PUMS data, I found that the cultural and ethnic ties may trump other factors in Chinese Americans’ location choices and they are not largely assimilated into the major population.
