En octobre 1993, au Burundi, l'assassinat du président élu Ndadaye déclenche sur tout le territoire un bain de sang qui se répandra au Rwanda et au Congo-Zaïre voisins. Un religieux français récemment installé dans un quartier de Bujumbura est sommé de rejoindre l'un ou l'autre camp en se déclarant pro-hutu ou pro-tutsi. Il s'y refuse et ouvre une maison communautaire qui accueille les jeunes hutu et tutsi, dans un contexte général de haine et de suspicion. Cette expérience et ce parcours sont ici retracés.
