Jubiabá

The theme of this work is the relationship between Candomblé and resistance, based on a critical reading of the novel Jubiabá. We intend to propose a reflection on the dichotomy that opposes resistances and religiosities. Connected to the Communist Party, Jorge Amado wrote in 1935 Jubiabá, whose narrative accompanies a Black character from the lower classes, a resident of the hill, towards its biological maturation, which coincides with the acquisition of political consciousness. In a context where discussions about the issue of Blacks not included in post-abolition, marginalized as well as their culture, including religiosity, and a certain frustration of those who had hoped for the 1930 revolution as the effector of effective changes in society.
