Ute Hartwig-Schulz

Born in Berlin in 1963, Ute Hartwig-Schulz found the place for her lifelong dream at the end of her studies at the Dresden School of Fine Arts: the small village of Prösitz, located in the Saxon landscape along the river Mulde. For more than a quarter of a century, an old three-sided farm has been forming the center of her living and working. The Künstlergut, which acts as an artist?s house, enjoys a remarkable reputation far beyond the borders of Saxony. Here, in addition to regional arts and cultural projects, symposia have been held every summer for 25 years, to which artists from all over Europe apply. Ute Hartwig-Schulz shoulders the responsibility. She is far-sighted initiator, manager, many years also home-builder and mentor for all tasks of the ?artists? estate Prösitz?, which is in the sponsorship of a non-profit association. The sculptor is the heart of the venture, never vain, but self-confident and combative, building national and international relationships to provide opportunities for moving forward and promoting the project. Her work in this task of creating spaces of possibilities for many processes in arts and thinking within our society is based on the concept of a social sculpture that Joseph Beuys developed once. He explicitly included into his conception of arts that human action which is oriented towards the formation of social relations.
