An encyclopedia of American history

This book hits on the significant events chronologically from 3 August 1492 with the sailing of Christopher Columbus to 30 December 1963 with the closing of the longest peacetime Congressional session in history. There is an extensive index. It was written by my grandparents. Irving S. Kull was the head of History and Political Science at Rutgers University until he retired in the early 1950's. It is remarkable to me that this was so precisely researched and organized on 3x5 index cards. It is much like reading the major headlines in an important newspaper. Most years have a very brief comment regarding general events of the time. My grandparents told us that the first thing people would turn to was their birth date. I still find it useful when I am doing work on my family tree, to look up what was going on in during a persons time in history.
