About
This brief booklet is a landmark in itself. Containing the Persian text of Sa’di’s famous book of morals, the Karīmā or ‘Kareemaa’, it also has an early English verse translation by Syed Ghulām Qādir Wāstī [1850-1906] and an Urdu verse translation by Sarwar Mewātī [b. 1911]., In this way, the trilingual text is available to any/all persons familiar with any of the languages. The Persian text is exquisitely calligraphed by a master calligrapher Muhammad Abdul-Raheem Khater Jaipuri [d. 1954] and reproduced in the book accurately. It has an introductory note on the history of Islamic calligraphy by the renowned expert Syed Nafīs al-Husaynī famous as Nafīs raqam (calligrapher with a delicate handwriting). A biographical sketch of Khatir Jaipuri is given by the compiler, Muzaffar Lateef, who is also Khatir Jaipuri’s son. There are interesting details regarding the 2 translators [Urdu/English] in the preface by Muzaffar Lateef. The English versified text was printed from Lahore as early as 1893 and indicates the remarkable proficiency of Syed Ghulam Qadir Wasti not only in Persian but in English versification as well. [Also see Open Library No. OL24242079M; at http://openlibrary.org/works/OL15167253W/The_Bunch_of_Flowers ] The book will benefit all those readers who are concerned at the loss of morality among the Muslims of today.
