Einige der Bilder entstanden nach einer Reise durch Vancouver Island an der Pazifikküste Kanada. Nanaimo ist die Hafenstadt, in der die Reise begann. Der Name geht auf einen Stammesnahmen der First Nations zurück. Andere Bilder und Zeichnungen zeigen ein Baummotiv aus dem Garten am Atelier in Friedrichsdorf bei Frankfurt am Main. Gehrmann wurde 1957 in Bad Homburg v.d.H. geboren und studierte von 1982 bis 1989 an der Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main, bei Karl Bohrmann, Christian Kruck, Thomas Bayrle und Per Kirkeby.
