Fear of Dying

Grace Beckmann, the unwilling yet intrepid heroine of Jackie Lewin's acclaimed mystery series comes in for a landing at Five Star where the amateur sleuth finds herself entangled in yet another mystery. When Grace and her husband Albert fly their small plane into the mountain town of Alden, Grace is immediately accosted by a pregnant girl who begs to be flown out of town. Before she can help, the girl disappears. The next day, to her horror, she finds that the girl has been murdered. Working with her friend, Detective Morrisey, Grace checks on the families of other missing young women, finding a strange pattern of special skills, brains, or looks that set these people apart. It seems more than possible that they have disappeared willingly. Eventually it becomes clear that Alden, home to mega-rich celebrities, is the seat of an illegal operation gone badly awry. Several more murders confirm Grace's suspicions. Now it's time for Detective Morrisey to make his move, hopefully before Grace becomes the next victim. Jackie Lewin lives in Denver, Colorado.
