ABSTRACT: In this study, tailings acidity and chemical toxicity, due to high concentrations of phytotoxic elements, were seen as the two main barriers to plant growth. The ability of the grass Deschampsia cespitosa to grow in the metal polluted Sudbury area was investigated to determine its commercial exploitability.
