Les pêcheries correspondent à une étape primordiale de la pêche permettant une exploitation des eaux peu profondes. Le paysage littoral du département de la Manche en porte les traces d'une intense exploitation. Un programme de recherche original a permis d'étudier un premier corpus qui se répartit en deux grandes périodes : la Préhistoire récente d'une part, et la période médiévale et moderne d'autre part. Ces études apportent un nouveau regard sur l'estran, paysage aménagé et constituant le prolongement des espaces ruraux de la bande côtière.
