Early history of Kamarupa, from the earliest times to the end of the sixteenth century

Studies in the Early History of Kamarupa, Assam grew from a collection of papers published in Research Journals on aspects of the history and culture of Kamrup,Assam, a society that was born and flourished at the intersection point of Indian and South Asian cultures and sustained by the Kamrup River valley civilization. Kanak Lal Barua wrote history in a very unique way. He studied coins, geography, weather and other scientific methods to put forward his perspective of ancient Kamrupi history. Local epigraphic records were used as a reliable foundation for writing this piece of Indian history. This book aims at presenting as far as possible, a connected history of the Pragjyotisha kingdom or Kamarupa from the earliest known times till the death of Narnarayan, the Koch king at the end of the 16th Century, AD. The last chapter of this monumental book is very interesting. It discusses the growth of Kamrupi literature and the concept of Assam in the larger context of Kamarupa, which included the whole of Assam valley till the accession of Dharmapala.
