Abstract: This book designed for the general public, presents the relationship between alcohol consumption during preganancy and fetal harm. It looks at a variety of factors involved in the risk for development of fetal alcohol syndrome, such as mother's age, race, nationality, occupation, general health, and nutritional status. Statistically, more women are drinking alcoholic beverages than in the past and admission to hospitals for alcohol dependence has risen steadily in the United Kingdom, where this book was published.
