About
This book was originally published in 1940. The second and third edition were published in 1950 and 1955 respectively. The third edition was also reprinted in 1962. For those looking for a book to teach them Hindi from scratch I would probably not recommend this book, unless you already know a little Sanskrit. Like many early grammar books on Hindi (e.g S.H Kellogg's Grammar of the Hindi Language) it is laid out in a way similar to Sanskrit grammar books and I very much feel that such a layout is not productive for most students of modern indic languages (at least not to western students). A qualified guess is that this book was probably used as a reference grammar of Hindi in many universities some decades ago, the way that McGregor's Outline of Hindi Grammar is still used today.
