A study of prison conditions in North Carolina

A study of North Carolina's prison conditions due to concern for treating and curing the causes of crime in the state, and the prisoners' health and well being. Complaints include prison employees' ignorance of or disregard for laws currently in place, negligence in health care, sanitation, and privacy, as well as inhumane punishment such as flogging or solitary confinement in dungeons. Includes tables identifying the prison demographics and a list of recommendations such as new legislation, funds, improved health care, education, better overall treatment of prisoners and placing members of the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare on the State Prison's board of governors.
