This book has been primarily designed for the undergraduate beginners in microbiology, who have little information about this subject. It contains all basic concepts and principles that a student should know about the different aspects of microbiology including recent developments in the area. This book also provides a comprehensive account of the microbial world including both general and applied aspects. The text, which has been organised into 20 chapters, includes historical aspects; general organization; structure and function of microbial cell; basic principles of microbial nutrition and growth; metabolism; biosynthesis of cellular components; microbial genetics and gene manipulation.
